Multiple sclerosis (MS) and the neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), from anti aquaporin4 (AQP4) and from myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOGAD) antibodies are inflammatory autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system, almost inevitably leading to clinical worsening with active inflammation and increasing disability. Genetic predisposition and environmental factors not only contribute significantly to the overall risk of these diseases in the general population, but their reciprocal interaction could be responsible for the disease clinical phenotype and course over the years. Despite a growing interest, evidence on predictors of disease progression and worsening in patients with both MS and NMOSD still remains an important gap of knowledge and a research focus.

This symposium is meant to address prognostication in MS and NMOSD through an up-date about the most relevant prognostic biomarkers derived from studies on neuroimaging, biological fluids (serum and cerebro-spinal fluids), as well as epidemiological data and registry-based care pathway data. Lastly, a study-case for the development of a prognostic algorithm in MS and NMOSD will be discussed.

From a scientific perspective the symposium is organized in collaboration with the ParadigMS Foundation and features a number of highly qualified and renowned speakers at national and international level.
