Training objectives
- Aim of the subject is to provide the students with all the theoretical pieces of information suitable for correctly interpreting a technical drawing. In particular, students should be able to correctly understand not only the geometry of the sketched component, but also all the symbolisms clarifying the prerogatives which must be assured in order to conform the component to the design specifications. The last part of the course is focused on the conventional representation of some mechanical components commonly used in practical applications.
Prerequisites
- None
Course programme
- Standard codes and standardisation. Unified size of the sheets of paper. Different types of lines and their use. Dimensional scales. Orthogonal projections and their conventions. Theory of axonometry and standard axonometries. Techniques to dimension technical drawings. Roughness and adopted standard symbolisms. Dimensional tolerances. Geometrical tolerances. Bolted joints. Pins. Elastic rings. Keys and cotters. Nailed joints. Welded joints. Gears. Bearings.
Didactic methods
- Lectures and tutorials.
Learning assessment procedures
- Written test and evaluation of the drawings.
The drawings made during the course have to be delivered the same day of the exam and their evaluation is part of the final vote. The written exam is made of some open-ended questions and the drawing of an orthogonal projection/section. Reference texts
